In Istanbul, on the edge of the Middle East, the world welcomed me. Once again, amidst the people and chaos of this city, I first became a sociologist. Then, while educating children, I experienced a period where children also educated me. I watched, and with forced patience, I learned to watch, to speak while listening, to see while speaking, to plan while seeing.
I was born into a place full of misunderstanding, hypocrisy, and degeneration —a big city lacking empathy, sympathy, and especially tranquility.
I am starved for every beauty, for seeing it, being a part of it, even if only a little, and showing it. Making something beautiful, appreciating what is precious, being surrounded by beauty, or making the place you are in precious, being on the edge of it, are all related to peace. And a person needs peace to stay alive.
When making a documentary, talking to people and showing what makes life "life" increases the importance of the stories, while revealing the light or gloom they contain can lead to a sense of peace. I continue my professional life as a "Cinematographer" to spread "the peace" or to show how to find it.
I become a walking cinema in the middle of the city.
Peace by peace.
